New sunrise must occur inshaAllah: BNP
Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said that a new sunrise would occur soon ‘to eliminate the current darkness of the misrule of the Awami League government’.
“There is no more time. Their (govt) time is up. I have made it clear before, and I am saying it again… resign and dissolve parliament like a good boy and form an interim government to oversee elections under a neutral and non-partisan government,” BNP Secretary General said, while speaking at a brief rally held at Shahid Bulu Stadium before its march in Noakhali on Friday afternoon.
He warned of potential street protests if the government does not comply.
Mirza Fakhrul asked ‘Where the decision to be made about the next
polls? The participants at the march screamed back in response: “On the streets.”
The BNP leader said, “The new sun must rise soon, inshaAllah.”
Mirza Fakhrul also called for unity to bring about a change in government.
Focusing the issue of corruption, the BNP leader said, “The Awami League has destroyed the country’s education system, healthcare system, and justice system. They have bankrupt our economy and turned it into a haven for illicit gains. Banks have been drained of their resources through plundering, with billions of Taka being smuggled out abroad.”
“Furthermore, they have devised schemes to bring back the smuggled money, offering a two-and-a-half percent incentive. It is ridiculous that they are rewarding thieves with our tax money while deducting from our own pockets.”
“This matter is not exclusive to the BNP; Khaleda Zia, or Tarek Rahman – it is a problem that affects the entire nation. We are facing a crisis of voting rights, jeopardised freedoms, and a crumbling economy,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader expressed his concern over the prolonged detention of Begum Khaleda Zia. “She (Khaleda Zia) has been unjustly imprisoned for eight years, despite her unwavering fight for democracy,” he said.
“If elected, we have outlined 31 points to rebuild the nation. Our leader Tarek Rahman has presented us with the vision of a new Bangladesh through these 31 points,” Mirza Fakhrul said.
The march programme organised jointly by the BNP’s front organisations Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal, Sramik Dal, Matsyajibi Dal, Tanti Dal, and JASAS, commenced at 2:30 PM before the march through the town streets.
This march marks the first of several planned events by these five organisations in six district cities across the country, the party said.
