President greets initiative of NSDA to celebrate World Youth Skills Day

The World Youth Skills Day (WYSD)-2023 will be observed today in the country as elsewhere across the globe.
The aim of the day is to advocate for skills to highlight the crucial role of skilled youth in addressing today’s most challenging global issues.
In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared on July 15 as the World Youth Skills Day to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship.
Since then, World Youth Skills Day events have provided a unique opportunity for dialogue between young people, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions, firms, employers’ and workers’ organisations, policymakers and development partners.
President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday issued separate messages on the eve of the day.
The President, in his message, said: “I welcome the initiative of the National Skill Development Authority (NSDA) to celebrate the day in Bangladesh like in other countries of the world.”
The great architect of the country’s independence Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman dreamt of building a happy and prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’, he added.
In building a prosperous Sonar Bangla, he gave highest priority to youth empowerment and job-oriented education, he said.
The head of the state hoped that the observance of this day will play an important role in informing the youth about skill development training in the use of modern technology, ensuring the involvement of participants in skill development activities with the needs and changes of the labor market and removing the existing negative social perception about skill development training.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, said the greatest Bangalee of all time, Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, took and implemented various steps to establish Bangladesh as ‘Sonar Bangla’ by training the youth in various professions and ensuring their employment.
Following the footsteps of the Father of the Nation, the Awami League (AL)-led government is working tirelessly to make the country a smart one by 2041.
The premier firmly believed that employment and economic prosperity of the country’s youth can only be achieved through up-to-date skill development.
“Therefore, World Youth Skills Day will play an important role in making them aware of skill development, training them in modern technology and providing employment guidance,” Sheikh Hasina added.
Both the President and the Prime Minister wished overall success of all programmes taken on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day.
