Dengue increasing in Sylhet

The number of dengue patients has suddenly increased in Sylhet. 79 people have been bitten by Aedes mosquitoes in the last six months. Among them, 73 people have been infected in the last two months. But no one has died so far.
The victims are receiving treatment in different hospitals in Sylhet. Most of the victims are residents of Goainghat upazila of Sylhet. Most of whom do not have the ‘history’ of traveling to Dhaka and other parts of the country.
According to the information provided by the Sylhet Divisional Health Directorate office, 79 people have been infected with dengue disease in Sylhet Division from January to July 6 this year. Out of which there are 23 women and 56 men. 73 people have been infected in the department in the last two months. Where 59 people were infected in June and 14 people were infected in 6 days of this month.
Goainghat upazila of Sylhet has the highest number of patients affected by Aedes mosquito bites. Besides, there are 7 people in Sunamganj district, 4 people in Moulvibazar and 4 people in Habiganj district. The number of patients is much higher than last time.
Chief Health Officer of Sylhet City Corporation Dr. Zahidul Islam said that the mosquito eradication campaign is continuing on behalf of the City Corporation. Our volunteers are working door to door to eradicate Aedes mosquitoes. Aedes mosquito larvae were found in Ward No. 26 of the metropolis in Sylhet. Since the beginning of this month, we have been running a special program to kill Aedes mosquitoes.
Besides advising the residents of the metropolis to be aware to prevent dengue infection, the official said that miking will start soon, urging them to keep the surroundings of the house clean and not to allow water to accumulate.
