Bangladesh Cricket team will face Afghanistan Cricket team in the second One Day International (ODI) match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, the port city of the country today. The day/night affair will start at 2.00pm (Bangladesh Standard Time). Private satellite sports channel T Sports and private satellite channel GTV will telecast the match live.
Before today’s match, Bangladesh and Afghanistan played 12 ODI matches. Of them, Bangladesh posted eight victories, while Afghanistan won four occasions.
It is noteworthy that lucky Afghanistan won the rain-interrupted first ODI against Bangladesh by 17 runs, according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern Method at the same venue on July 5. So, if Afghanistan win today’s match, they will clinch the three-match ODI series. On the other hand, Bangladesh have no alternative to win the today’s encounter, if they keep their hope alive. So, today’s match is do-or-die clash for the Tigers.
Captain of Bangladesh ODI Cricket team Tamim Iqbal announced his retirement at the Hotel Tower Inn Limited in Chattogram on Thursday last. But later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called-up Tamim on Friday at the Ganabhaban in Dhaka and then, Tamim withdrew his retirement. But he will not take part in the second ODI against Afghanistan. In absence of Tamim Iqbal, Litton Das will lead Bangladesh Cricket team in today’s game. Promising right-hand batter Rony Talukder has been included in Bangladesh ODI squad.
To mark the crucial second ODI, Bangladesh Cricket team took part in the full-fledged practice session at the match venue on Friday.
Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das arrived at the match venue in the morning and inspected the wickets. Head Coach of Bangladesh Cricket team Chandika Hathurusingha and Selector of Bangladesh Cricket Board Abdur Razzak joined them.
After the practice session, Litton Das said, ” I don’t feel any pressure. But I’m chilled. I’m not interested to discuss the matter of Tamim Iqbal now. I’m just thinking about tomorrow’s match. We shall miss Tamim Bhai. We are trailing in a match. So, We are serious about tomorrow’s match. We shall try to keep our bond.”
Captain of Afghanistan Cricket team Hashmatullah Shahidi said, ” Tamim Iqbal is obviously a top cricketer for Bangladesh Cricket team. His absence will be an advantage for us. We are looking forward for tomorrow’s match. I respect Tamim too much.”
