After the Eid ul Fitr, the authorities of the Bangladesh Railway have sold cent percent of the rail tickets through an online process on the occasion of the Eid ul Azha as well. Passengers have expressed their satisfaction as they got Eid advance and return tickets at the online platform while staying at home.
Online ticketing process has reduced not only the suffering of the passengers, but also it has stopped the black marketing of tickets. The railway authorities sold advance tickets for the Eid ul Azha from June 14 to 18 and return tickets from June 22 to 26.
Railway seems the only hope of many people living in Dhaka to return home safely during the Eid holidays. Every year, people were seen waiting in the lines from night to day at the railway stations to buy tickets in advance of Eid.
However, passengers did not have to suffer from the long wait of standing in the queue this year, since hundred percent of the rail tickets were sold through an online process ahead of Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Azha.
Dr Md Humayun Kabir, Secretary of the Ministry of Railways, said, “The passengers have been able to buy their tickets with comfort as hundred percent rail tickets were sold online for the second time on this Eid. No complaint of suffering was recorded. At the same time, it has been made possible to stop black marketing of tickets.”
He claimed that there was no problem with the server while booking advance and return tickets this year. He further said, however, the government has strengthened the security and ticket checking system at the train stations as the next step to make the Eid journey smooth.
Humayun Kabir said, “Online ticketing company ‘shohoz’ is working to deliver hundred percent rail tickets through online process successfully. Selling 27,000 tickets against the huge daily demand is a tough task, but we all together have managed it well.”
The Railways Secretary said that during the last Eid ul Fitr, hundred percent tickets were sold online for the first time. As the technical errors that took place at that time have been corrected, the passengers have been able to book their tickets with comfort this time, added the official.
Jubaer Hossain Pavel, Vice President of shohoz Limited, the leading company in ticketing management of Bangladesh Railways, said, “Advance tickets were sold online in two parts for the convenience of passengers.
Advance tickets for all intercity trains running in western zone were available from 8.00 am and tickets for eastern zone trains were sold online from 12.00 noon.
Passengers benefited from easy and convenient log-in and ticketing as the tickets were sold in two parts.”
He said that more than 35 million hits have been received on their system every hour to buy tickets in advance of this Eid. This is the most hit ever for railway tickets. However, he claimed that the passengers were able to buy the tickets quite comfortably.
Shohoz authorities said that the company has prepared itself with all new modern technologies to handle the pressure of passengers on the server during the Eid. Besides, more than 1500 powerful servers have been added to their system to provide better service to additional passengers. As a result, passengers were able to buy tickets online in a short time.
It should be noted that tickets are being sold through an online process on the basis of national identity cards with a slogan, “travelling belongs to ticket owner (ticket jar bhromon tar).” A maximum of four seats can be purchased with one NID registration.
