Govt out to weaken JP, GM Quader alleges
Staff Reporter :
Jatiya Party Chairman Golam Mohammad Quader has commented that the government is attempting to weaken his party through various means.
“Various sources have informed me that different government agencies are exerting pressure on the mass media to disseminate negative reports against the Jatiya Party,” he said while exchanging views with journalists at his Banani office in the capital on Monday.
Regarding the upcoming election, he said, “There will not be elections like those held in 2014 or 2018. The government will try to achieve the same outcome by any means. However, foreigners are pushing for a fair and impartial electoral process.”
He further mentioned that the Awami League is striving to remain in power and they will do whatever is necessary to stay in power.
“Awami League thinks that a change in regime could bring severe consequences for them,” he said.
Replying to a question, GM Quader said that there are indications of movement after Eid vacation.
“It is uncertain whether the people of the country will take to the streets or not. It cannot be said that the people of the country will not take to the streets either. The people’s faith in the government has diminished,” he observed.
Referring to the foreign pressure for a fair election, he said that foreigners want a free, fair, and impartial election in the country.
“The longer it takes, the clearer the matter will become because foreigners will continue to exert pressure. The government will make their efforts and the opponents will make efforts, while foreigners will also make efforts,” he said.
