Tobacco farmers lay siege to Lalmonirhat tax office

Lalmonirhat Tobacco Farmers and Businessmen Somity on Wednesday laid siege to the Lalmonirhat Deputy Tax Commissioner office to press home their five-point demand to protect the domestic tobacco and Bidi industry.
About thousands Tobacco Farmers and businessman gathered in front of Lalmonirhat Deputy Tax Commissioner Office and staged demonstrations there in the morning.
Bangladesh Bidi Workers Federation Acting President Amin Uddin BSc, Co-organizing Secretary Leader Abul Hasnat Lavlu, Bidi Sramik Leader Jamil Akter, Rofiq Hossen were present in the programme among others.
Leaders said that their demands are including withdrawing 10 pc tax on purchasing tobacco, allotting banks loans for the tobacco cultivators, eliminating 10 per cent income tax on bidis, terminating British American tobacco interest business in the name of debt to tobacco farmers and not stopping the export of tobacco in abroad, a press release.
