A Dhaka court again extended the deadline till August 7 for submitting the probe report of a case filed over the murders of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi in 2012.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shafuddin passed the order after Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Additional Superintendent of Police Khondoker Md Shafiqul Alam, also the investigation officer of the case, failed to submit the report on Thursday.
With this, the report submission date has been deferred for 99th time so far.On May 22 this year, the same court asked RAB to submit the probe report by June 22.Sagar, news editor at private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were brutally murdered in their rented apartment in West Rajabazar in the capital on February 11, 2012.
Their only son Mahir Sarowar Megh, then 5, was home at that time. Nousher Ali Roman, brother of Runi, filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Police Station the following day.Four days later, the investigation was handed over to Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Detective Branch (DB).
On 18 April 2012, 62 days after they got the investigative duty, DB accepted failure. The court then instructed RAB to investigate the case.
