‘Sacrificial animal carrying trucks can’t be stopped, extorted’

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandkar Ghulam Farooq said that no truck carrying sacrificial animals can be stopped and extorted.
He also said that strict action will be taken if any such incident occurs.
The DMP commissioner said this in his president’s speech to a coordination meeting organized in the conference room of DMP headquarters on Wednesday (June 21).
On the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, a special coordination meeting was held regarding security of sacrificial (Qurbani) animal market, money escort, identification of fake notes, overall law and order maintenance and traffic management.
Meanwhile, DMP Commissioner said that no cow can be kept outside the boundary of the market to avoid public suffering. Cows cannot be kept on the road. Even no cow can be taken to market before June 25.
Addressing the lessees, the DMP Commissioner said that cattle cannot be forced to be unloaded from any truck. Cows cannot be dragged to market. The trader should be allowed to take the cows to market as it likes.
The commissioner advised the traders to hang a banner in front of the truck stating which market they will take the cows for police assistance.
He said that the DMP will provide escort to transport money of the traders for the sale of animals.
The police will provide all security for the transportation of money. DMP advises traders to bring entire animal markets and cattle traders’ hotels under CCTV cameras.
