Banks to operate in RMG industrial areas on June 27-28

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has directed keeping the scheduled banks open in RMG industrial areas on June 27-28(Tuesday and Wednesday) – which are public holidays to facilitate payment of garment workers’ salary, Eid bonus, allowances and export-import activities.
The central bank gave the directive to the scheduled banks through a circular on Wednesday and sent it to the top executives of all scheduled banks to take necessary action.
The central bank has asked the banks to keep open the branches before Eid-ul-Azha in the industrial areas including Dhaka metropolitan, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, and the industry related branches of banks located in Narayanganj and Chittagong ensuring adequate security.
Clients will be able to do banking between 10:00am and 2pm on June27 and June28.
Meanwhile, Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of Muslims, will be celebrated in the country on June 29.
In the same circular, the central bank has also asked the banks having branches, sub-branches and booths located in the sea, land and airport areas (i.e. port and customs area) to discusswith the local administration along with the port/ customs authorities to keep the branches, sub-branches and booths open round the clock.
