Court rejects bail plea of 2 Central Hospital doctor

A Dhaka court yesterday rejected the bail plea of two doctors who were arrested in the case filed over the death of a mother and her newborn due to alleged wrong treatment at Central Hospital in the capital.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Mohammad Asaduzzaman Noor passed the order rejecting the bail petition of Dr Muna Saha and Dr Shahjadi.
Dhanmondi Police Station General Registration Officer (GRO) of Dhaka CMM Court Mahfuzul Islam confirmed the media.
On June 9 last, patient Mahbuba Rahman Ankhi got admitted to the Central Hospital under Professor Dr Sangjukta Saha of Gynaecology Depart-ment. But, Dr Sangjukta Saha was absent from the hospital.
Then her two assistants tried to conduct delivery of Ankhi, but the newborn was shifted to the NICU as comlications had arisen. At the same time, Ankhi was shifted to LabAid Hospital after her condition was deteriorated. Later in the afternoon of June 10, Ankhi’s newborn died.
Then Ankhi’s husband Yaqub Ali Sumon filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station in connection with the incident.
Later, on June 18 at noon Akhi also died.
It may be remembered the two physicians voluntarily made confessions admitting their fault in the incident on June 15.
