‘No shortage of food in the country’

Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Mazumdar MP has guaranteed that there will be no shortage of food and famine in Bangladesh.
The Minister said that during our period, there is no stock of wheat and rice below 16 or 18 lakh tons. We have a storage capacity of 21 lakh 60 thousand tons. Yesterday our stock was 2 million tons of wheat and rice.
The Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar has addressed an view exchange meeting with the Departmental Food officials on the occasion of ongoing Boro collection at Kishoreganj Circuit House on Tuesday, while ADC (General) Md. Rubble Mahamud in the chair. He also said, we are makingmaki silos of 5.5 lakh tons to keep more stocks of wheat and rice.
We hope to inaugurate the silos by September or October. Besides, we have taken steps to silo 5,000 tons of paddy for the benefit of farmers. The project has already been passed. Consultant appointed, design underway.
Wet paddy will be taken to silos by the farmers. There will be four dyers in one silo. 30 tons of paddy per hour will be threshed, sorted and dried in one dryer.
From there, the farmer will go to the bank with the slip. Then return home with the money. There are plans to make 200 silos. The PM Sheikh Hasina has approved 30 as pilot schemes.
The government will buy 16 lakh 50 thousand tons of paddy and rice from the domestic market in the upcoming Boro season. Apart from this, wheat will be bought at 35 taka.
The target of collection of 400,000 tons of paddy and 1250,000 tons of boiled rice has been set.
