Staff Reporter  :
Rights bodies, including Manabadhikar Shongskriti Foundation (MSF) and the Ain o Shalish Kendra (ASK) have expressed deep anger and concern over the fact that a person named Alal Dewan was detained for 10 days by the Detective Branch of Police of DMP as a suspect in a murder case and later found dead in a cardiac institute in the capital.

Expressing deep anguish over the incident in a statement on Monday, the organisations demanded an impartial and fair investigation into of the matter and legal actions against the involved persons.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family claimed that Alal died due to the torture in the DB custody.

Quoting the family members of the victim, human body organization MSF said that Turag police recovered the body of Fatema Akter, 33, from a seven-storey building at Baunia area of Turag on 6 June. Alal Uddin was the security guard of that house. Though Fatema’s brother Murad Mia filed a case accusing her husband Saiful Islam with Turag police station.

But DB officials called security guard Alal over mobile phone on 6 June and took him from home for interrogation. The DB officials handcuffed him before boarding a vehicle. Alal’s family members even did not get his whereabouts for 10 days.

Family members called several times on the mobile phone number provided by a DB official during Alal’s detention. Receiving the calls, a person without giving his identity, told, “Alal is okay. We will release him.”
