Five killed in Bogura road mishaps

Five people, including two minor children and women, were killed in two separate road accidents at Sherpur and Shajahanpur upazila of Bogura district on Thursday evening.

The accidents took place at Sherpur’s Hajipur and Shajahanpur’s Ranirhat areas.

The deceased were identified as Golam Kabir, 40, Jannat Luba, 4, Dolena Begum, 22, her daughter Ayesha Khatun, 5, and an unidentified woman, aged around 45.

Quoting locals and witnesses, Sherpur Highway Police camp in-charge Abdul Wadud said a CNG-run autorickshaw with passengers was going towards Bogura from Sherpur. When they reached Hajipur area, a speeding truck rammed into the autorickshaw from opposite direction, leaving four passengers critically injured and an unidentified woman and Jannat Luba dead on the spot.

Firefighters rescued the injured and took to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors referred them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMC). Later, Golam Kabir succumbed to his injuries in the hospital while undergoing treatment.

Process to file a case in this regard with the concerned police station was underway, he said.

Meanwhile, a mother and her daughter were killed after being hit by a private car on the Natore-Bagura highway at Shajahanpur upazila of the district in the afternoon.

Shajahanpur Police Station sub-inspector Mohammad Ali said a speeding private car ran over Dolena and her daughter Ayesha, when they were crossing the highway, leaving the duo dead on the spot.

Legal actions were under process in this regard, the police official added.
