Journo dies after assault ‘over a report’

A journalist named Golam Rabbani Nadeem was killed in an attack by some local terrorists in Bakshiganj Upazila of Jamalpur on Thursday. The journalist, who received fatal injuries earlier, died while undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital around 2.30 pm.

Journalist Golam Rabbani was the Jamalpur district representative of the online portal ‘Bangla News 24.com’. At the same time, he worked as Bakshiganj upazila representative of EkattorTV. He is son of one Abdul Karim of Char village of Nilakhia union of that upazila.

Rafiqul Islam, sub-inspector at Mymensingh medical college hospital police camp, said the journalist was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital around 11:00 am in critical condition. Later, he died at the hospital at around 2:45 pm on Thursday.

Earlier on Wednesday night, some terrorists attacked Nadeem in the Pathati area on his way back home. They left Nadeem unconscious and ran away.

Sohel Rana confirmed the matter to The New Nation that they have already arrested four persons in this connection.
banglanews24.com adds: Some 10-12 people attacked Nadim in Bakshiganj Bazar area while he along with his colleague Al Mujahid Babu was returning home by a motorcycle around 10:00pm yesterday.
The miscreants with local arms attacked Nadeem randomly and took him to a dark lane dragging. When Mujahid tried to stop even he was assaulted.

later, Mujahid with the help of the locals rushed journalist Nadeem to a nearby hospital, later, he was referred to MMCH for better treatment.
He said “We along with Nadeem covered news against Sadhupara Union Chairman Mahmud Alam Babu. After the news chairman was agitated and filed a case under Digital Security Act (DSA) against us.”
However, a Mymensingh cyber tribunal dismissed the case, said Mujahid describing the incident.
Meanwhile, Banglanews family has expressed deep sorrow in this regard.
