BD’s per capita income $2,765, Finance Minister tells JS

The per capita income of the people of Bangladesh in the fiscal year 2022-2023 is $2,765, while it was $686 in the fiscal year 2007-2008.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said this while responding to a tabled-question of Jatiya Party lawmaker Sayed Abu at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Sunday.

He also said that it is one of the main objectives of the government to increase the per capita income by accelerating the economic progress of the country. For that purpose, the government is adopting and implementing various short, medium and long term plans, he added.

Responding to another question of Awami League lawmaker Morshed Alam, AHM Mustafa Kamal said that 15 cases have so far been filed on charges of money laundering with the revenue involvement is Tk 367.55 crore.

The Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2012 is currently in force in the country to prevent money laundering abroad, he said, adding that it was partially revised in 2015 as per requirement.

The Finance Minister also said, according to the amended law of 2015, Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit, National Board of Revenue (NBR), Anti-Corruption Commission and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police are working to prevent money laundering on the basis of mutual cooperation.
