Energy Adviser visits Rooppur Nuclear Project

Energy Advisor Dr. Taufiq-e-Ilahi Chowdhury Bir Vikram inspected the progress of the first unit and grid construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Project on Saturday .
He also visited the project area at Rooppur in Ishwardi and held a meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Power and Energy.
It is reported that the milestones for the first unit’s power generation are: receipt of fuel by October this year, completion of fuel loading and start-up by the middle of next year, synchronization with the grid and evacuation. (Evacuation). That is, adaptation to the grid or co-ordination and start of transmission of electricity to the grid, which will be done in stages.

Shahid Hossain, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Ziaul Hasan, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy Habibur Rahman, Chairman of the Power Development Board Mahbubur Rahman, Director General of Power Cell Engineer Mohammad Hossain, Chairman of the Energy Development Authority Dr. Monira Sultana, PGCB Managing Director Masum Alam Baksi along with senior officials of two ministries and Rooppur NPP were present.
Project Director Dr. Shaukat Akbar confirmed the news of the visit of the energy adviser and said that the first unit of fuel (uranium) will be available by October. Start-up will be done by loading fuel in the middle of next year. After start-up, grid synchronization and evacuation activities will be carried out to adapt to the grid and start power transmission to the grid. Rooppur Project Authority is working with these goals in mind.
The grid is expected to be ready within the stipulated time. The Energy Advisor visited the project to review the progress of the project and grid construction work and to coordinate the work of the two projects. He gave necessary advice and instructions to the two ministries for coordinating the work of PGCB with the project. We are very optimistic that electricity evacuation can be started in the grid within the stipulated time, said Shaukat Akbar.
