4 smugglers arrested along with Takkhak

Some 4 smugglers were arrested along with a venomous lizard locally known as ‘Takkhak’ from Bujhbunia village under Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat district at Tuesday night by a police squad of Rampal PS.
The arrested smugglers are Abu Hanif (45), son of one late Sirajul Islam of Rupsa Upazila in Khulna district, Md. Sagar, son of one Hossain Shaikh of the same area, Debasish Mondol (43), son of one Bibhas Mondol of Achbhua under Dakop Upazila in Khulna district and Mohidul Islam (35), son of one Sirajul Islam of village Lohachara under Maksudpur Upazila in Gopalganj district. It is said that a Takkhak is sold in the black market at Tk. several crors. It is guessed that it (Takkhak) was, perhapa, caught from Sundabaans. S M Ashraful Alam, Officer-in-charge of Ramap PS, told, acting on secret information a police squad led by SI Khndakar Mobin and SI Delwar raided the village Bujhbunia at Tuesday night at about 8-00 pm and arrested them (smugglers) along with the Takkhak just (from) in front of a temple.
In the following morning (Wednesday) at 10 am they were brought before Najibul Alam, UNO and Executive Magistrate of Rampal Upazila who conducted a Moble Court and convicted them to suffer simple imprisonment for 6 (six) months under the Wild Animal & Birds Preservation Act.
