Primary school closure for four days due to severe heat wave

Unbearable heat wave has pushed the government primary schools to remain closed for four days to relieve the kids from the unbearable sufferings inside the classrooms under the scorching heat.

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has announced that the classes of all government primary schools will remain closed for four days, due to the severe heat wave sweeping over the country.

The government primary schools will remain closed from 5 to 8 June, the ministry said in a press release on Sunday. It also said that the decision has been taken considering the health and well-being of the young students.

However, there is no plan to close the secondary and higher secondary schools for the heat wave.

Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) Nehal Ahmed told the media, “There is no such plan. But we will look into the matter if the condition deteriorates.”

“If the secondary and higher secondary classes are closed, it will be difficult to complete the syllabus in time,” he added.

Though the government has announced the closure of the primary schools, the kindergarten schools mushroomed in every nook and cranny of the localities have not yet taken any such decisions.

According to the met office, the prevailing heat wave condition is likely to continue further for the next five to six days over the country. Due to the excessive moisture incursion, the discomfort may continue.

Severe heat wave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Naogaon, Nilphamari and Dinajpur. Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Barishal divisions and the rest parts of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions and the districts of Moulvibazar, Chandpur and Noakhali and it may continue, met office read.

The maximum temperature was recorded in Rajshahi showing the mercury 41 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was recorded in Netrakona 23.5 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours.
