DSE turnover exceeds Tk 12b-mark in post-budget first session

The daily turnover on the Dhaka bourse exceeded Tk 12 billion-mark in the post-budget first session on Sunday, as the buoyant investors continued to put fresh bets in lucrative shares in anticipation of quick gains.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal unveiled nearly Tk 7.62 trillion national budget for the fiscal year (FY) 2023-24 2023 before the Parliament on Thursday.
Although there is no new incentive for the market in the proposed budget, the finance minister did not cut the existing facilities offered for the stock market investment.
The finance minister said in his budget speech that the existing facilities offered for the stock market will be continued which might encourage the market investors, market insiders said. The recent increase in market participation has bolstered confidence across the trading floor. Consequently, the total turnover stood at Tk 12.54 billion, up from Tk 9.98 billion in the day before. It was also the seven-month highest single-day since November 8 last year.
DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), also went up by 10.58 points or 0.16 per cent to settle the week at 6,366, the highest since November 8 last year.
The DSES Index, which represents Shariah-based companies, also advanced 3.43 points to 1,383. However, the DS30 Index, which consists of blue-chip companies, dropped 2.28 points to 2,199. Stockbrokers said stocks continued its gaining streak as optimistic investors kept chasing for sector-specific issues with quick gain potential.
