Chattogram Bureau :

The four members of Appellate Division Bench of Supreme Court of Bangladesh headed by Chief Justice in an observation on 30 September 2021 last observed the judgment of High Court dated November 19, 2020 was beyond jurisdiction and repugnant to law. The earlier High court judgment barred the homoeo doctors to write ‘Dr.’ before the name of respective doctor. After hearing the Civil Petition for Leave to Appeal No.1955 of 2021, primarily the honourable justices pronounced this historical order sustaining rights to write ‘Dr.’ before the name of the respective homoeo doctors. The judges in their detailed order told that Homoeopathy practice is conducted by the Bangladesh Homoeopathic Practioners Ordinance-1983 (Ordinance No.XLI of 1983) under Section 3(2), so there is no relations of Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council Act- 2010 Section 29. The judgment further said that in the hearing of High Court, it was obligatory to give opportunity to Homoeo physicians for self -defence during arguments and cross examinations. For this epoch making judgment of the Supreme Court, people irrespective of different opinions and homoeo physicians expressed solidarity to the honourable judges of the apex court.
Over the said order of the Supreme court, a Shokrana Mahfil was arranged at Homoeo Chetona office premises on May 25 last with Principal Dr.Abdul Karim in the chair.
The homoeo physicians became joyous and jubilant after getting back the long awaited rights of writing the word ‘Dr.’ before the name of every qualified medical practitioner.
