BCC officials, workers engaged in election campaign defying govt rule

In the Barishal City Corporation (BCC) elections, BCC officials and employees are participating in the election campaign in favour of ruling party supported candidate. Even after the instructions from the local government department to refrain from any election activities, they did not abstain from participating in the campaign.
According to the administrative department of BCC, Barishal City Corporation has total 2093 officers and employees including 419 officers and employees on permanent and 1674 more on temporary basis.
About 2100 staff members including their families have at least 6 to 7 thousand voters and candidates are active in attracting these voters also.
Administrative official of BCC Swapan Kumar Das told participation of BCC official or using any of its vehicles or giving assistance is prohibited by the local government ministry and violation of election rules.
On May 11, deputy secretary of Local Government Department Mohammad Shamsul Islam, gave this instructed BCC employees and officials to refrain any employee from participating in any process including election campaign.
Local government department Mohammad Shamsul Islam said according to electoral conduct rules participating in the election process including election campaigning prohibit for any staff of the city corporation. A letter also been sent in this regard.
It has been revealed that Mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah has taken disciplinary measures against all the staffs who are now enthusiastically participating in the campaign for the boat marker candidate. Several officials have already been seen publicly, but hundreds of officials are keeping in touch.
After Sadiq deprived from getting nomination for mayor candidature many BCC officials resented about his interference in any matter, including working at night, now many of them continued to work with the boat-symbol mayoral candidate in various ways.
