Staff Reporter :
The bodies of three people, who were abducted while visiting Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar and subsequently killed, have been recovered. Meanwhile, police have arrested one person for his suspected involvement in the incident.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Yushup of Jalalabad Saudagarpara of Eidgaon Upazila, Rubel of Choufaldandi Union and Imran of Nuniachhara area of Cox’s Bazar. They are said to be friends of each other.
Two teams of RAB and police recovered their bodies from Damdamia hilly area of the upazila on Wednesday (May 24) afternoon.
According to family sources, three friends were kidnapped when they went to see their fiancee in Teknaf on April 28.
On the way, their CNG-powered auto-rickshaw was stopped by a group of abductors who took them to the deep forest of the hills. Later, the gang sent a video of torture demanding a ransom of Tk 30 lakh to release them.
Since the incident, the family members have maintained contact with several law enforcement agencies. But the law enforcers failed to rescue the abductees because the kidnappers were frequently shifting locations in the deep forests.
It is known that RAB has arrested one person involved in the incident with the help of information technology. Later, according to his confession, three dead bodies were found after reaching the spot.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf police station Abdul Halim said that an operation was carried out in the deep forest of Teknaf along with the detained person. At that time, three bodies were recovered.
