500 BNP men including Gayeshwar sued over clash with police

Police have filed three cases with the New Market and Dhanmondi Police stations in connection with clashes with BNP leaders and activists in Dhaka’s Science Laboratory area during the Tuesday march program.

Shafiqul Gani Sabu, Officer in-charge (OC) of New Market Police Station, told the New Nation on Wednesday night that SI Sabuj Mia has filed a case as plaintiff, alleging assault on the police.

In this case, BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, BNP’s Publicity Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny, the party chairperson’s advisor Abul Khair Bhuiyan, central leader Mir Sarfat Ali Sopu, Jubo Dal president Sultan Salauddin Tuku and some 400 to 500 other unknown people were also made accused in the lawsuit filed with New Market Police Station in the capital.

Earlier on Wednesday, police filed a case against 52 BNP leaders and activists, including its executive committee member Sheikh Rabiul Alam, for assaulting the police and vandalizing the vehicle during the clash with Dhanmondi Police.

Witnesses said the clash ensued when the march program of BNP reached in front of Dhaka City College.
Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, BNP’s Dhaka South City unit started the road march from in front of Bangladesh Medical College, Dhanmondi.
It was supposed to end in front of Kataban Mosque through marching Satmasjid Road, Rifles Square, Dhaka City College, Science Lab

and Bata Signal but was foiled in front of Dhaka City College.
Police said the BNP leaders and leaders vandalized several BRTC buses and police box at Dhanmondi Road No. 3 crossing.
