Director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and former captain of Bangladesh National Cricket team Akram Khan said, ” Bangladesh cricketers have to play highflying cricket against Afghanistan. Afghan spinners are better than our spinners. Afghanistan have some outstanding spinners, who were tough to read.”
Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan cannot take part in the lone Test match against Afghanistan due to injury. But Akram Khan said, ” We have back-up pacers. We have some promising pacers, who are really good.”
Afghanistan played Test matches seldom. Afghanistan played a Test match against India in June of 2018. It was their debut Test match. After that they played only four Test matches. They last played a Test match against Zimbabwe in the United Arab Emirates in 2021 against Zimbabwe. They defeated the Africans in that Test match. After that, Afghanistan are going to play a Test match against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur from June 14 to June 18.
Before this match, Bangladesh had a bitter test as they suffered a defeat to Afghanistan in September of 2019. Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh Cricket team played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram and played without any specialist spinner. Thus, they conceded defeat to the inexperienced Afghanistan team.
Chief Selector of the BCB Minhazul Abadin Nannu said, ” We shall not do any experiment this time. Afghanistan are good side. As we have a bad experience from them and we lost to them , so, we shall not do any tryout against Afghanistan.”
Bangladesh tasted defeat in the previous Test match to Afghanistan as they had a classic spin bowling attack. Rashid Khan and Qais Ahmed are leg-spinners, while Mohammad Nabi is an off-spinner.
This time the wicket of Mirpur is very much sporting wicket. Bangladesh performed well against India and Ireland recently. Bangladesh team have now good pacers. So, Bangladesh can show a better brand of cricket against Afghanistan.
