US citizens in Bangladesh asked to exercise caution ahead of nat’l polls

The US Embassy in Dhaka has issued a demonstration alert, urging its citizens to maintain a state of vigilance in light of the upcoming parliamentary election.
The alert specifically cautions against potential risks associated with political party rallies and other election-related activities.
The US Embassy issued the ‘demonstration alert’ on its official website on Sunday.

“The next general election is anticipated to occur before or during January 2024, and political party rallies and other election-related activities have already commenced.??Political rallies and demonstrations may be held with increasing frequency or intensity as the general election draws nearer,” it read. It further said that US citizens should practice vigilance and remember that demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.??

“You should avoid demonstrations and exercise caution in the vicinity of any large gatherings.??Review personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates,” it continued.

Carrying a fully charged mobile phone for emergency communication is strongly advised. In case of any unforeseen events or emergencies, having a reliable means of communication can prove vital.

As the general election draws closer, tensions may continue to rise, and political demonstrations may become more frequent. By staying alert and following these precautionary measures, US citizens can navigate through this politically charged period with enhanced security and peace of mind.
