Dengue death toll rises 13, 33 hospitalised in 24hrs

One more dengue patient died in the country in the last 24 hours and with the new casualty the death toll has risen to 13 this year.

According to a release issued by the emergency operation center and the control room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday, 33 more people were hospitalised with dengue in 24 hours till last morning.

The DGHS control room said that the dengue cases were rising in the country recently. It has asked all to be aware to prevent the mosquito born disease.

Among the new patients, 22 were admitted to hospitals in the capital Dhaka and the rest outside the city.

According to DGHS, 151 dengue patients, including 125 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.

The data showed that since January 1 to May 21 this year, 1,447 dengue cases were recorded. Of them, 894 are in Dhaka and 553 are outside the capital.

Among them 1,283 patients have recovered.

The country logged 281 dengue deaths in 2022 – the highest on record after 179 deaths recorded in 2019. Also, it recorded 62,423 dengue cases and 61,971 recoveries last year.
