50 hurt as 3 compartments of train derails in Moulvibazar

At least 50 people were hurt as three compartments of a Sylhet-bound train derailed after being hit by a leaning tree early Saturday.

The incident took place at around 4:30am at Lawachara National Park in Moulvibazar, reports the media.

Due to the train accident, rail communication with Sylhet, Dhaka and Chittagong has been suspended., said Station Master of Srimangal Railway Station Udaykushal Singh.

“It heavily rained on Saturday night and there are a lot of trees inside the park. Due to the rain, a tree leaned on the rail line, and that caused the accident,: the official noted.

Two rescue trains from Parakulaura and Akhaura are leaving for the scene. However, it is not yet known when the rail link will be restored, he added.
