Staff Reporter  :
Two members of Bangladesh Army were killed and two others injured in an attack by the separatist group Kuki-Chin National Army (KNA) in Bandarban on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in Ruma upazila when the KNA rebels detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) and opened fire on the military personnel who were patrolling the area following an intelligence report about potential separatist hideouts.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a press release on Wednesday in this regard.
According to the ISPR press release, an army patrol team led by Major Monowar on Tuesday left Sungsungpara army camp after receiving information about a hideout of armed criminals at Jarulchharipara under the upazila. As the team reached there, the KNA criminals detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) and opened fire on army personnel indiscriminately, leaving two officers and two soldiers injured, it added.

The injured were flown to Combined Military Hospital, Chattogram, where the two soldiers died of their injuries, said the ISPR release, adding the injured officers are receiving treatment at the hospital.

In recent times, the KNA has been trying to create a chaotic environment through criminal activities in the deep forests of Ruma, Rowangchhari and Thanchi upazilas of Bandarban, it added.

Earlier, on March 13, a senior army warrant officer was killed and two soldiers suffered injuries when members of the armed separatist group Kuki-Chin National Army (KNA) opened fire on a patrol team in Rowangchhari upazila of Bandarban district.
