BNP to AL govt: Form caretaker govt for safe exit

The BNP on Saturday asked the government to form a caretaker government and handed over power to them for safe exit.

“If you (govt) want a safe exit then form a caretaker government and handed over power to them. There is not approaching a natural cyclone only, but a political cyclone also will form soon be careful,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called to the government from a demonstration held at Nayapaltan in the capital on Saturday.

Dhaka City South and North units of BNP organised the demonstration.

The BNP Secretary General announced new programme for demonstration in 23 districts along with the capital Dhaka on May 19 (Friday) to press home the demand of resignation of the government.

“Sheikh Hasina-led government will have to leave power as soon as possible. If they (government) don’t resign
voluntarily, they will be forced to do so,” the BNP leader said.

“The Awami League had observed strikes for 173 days demanding the caretaker government. They even killed people during their movement in this issue,” Mirza Fakhrul said.

“They (AL govt) increased their properties snatching the people’s wealth. They cut pockets of the people and is touring abroad by this money. They went foreign countries not for the people but only for surviving in power,” the BNP leader said.

BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas said, that the government is trying every alternative to cling in the power when the people want their quick departure.

BNP Standing Committee Member Goeswar Chanra Roy said, the government is giving everything to India for clinging to power.
BNP North City Unit Convenor Aman Ullah Aman presided over the programme.

Before joining the demonstration, the BNP secretary general went to see JSD president ASM Abdur Rab at the hospital. Later, he told journalists that their party is one of the members of ‘Ganatantra Mancha.’

“We have launched a movement along with them (JSD) to restore democracy in Bangladesh. We hope that ASM Rab will recover soon and extend his cooperation providing his leadership. He will also contribute to free the people from the shackles of misrule,” Mirza Fakhrul said.

“We consider this movement as the movement for freedom. We are hopeful that he (Rab) will be able to give his leadership in the struggle for democracy as he gave leadership in the War of Independence in 1971,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ganatantra Mancha held a rally on Saturday in front of the Press Club to press home its 14-point demands including the next general election under an interim government and reform of the constitution.

Speaking at the rally, Nagorik Oikya president Mahmudur Rahman Manna said ‘tall talks’ by head of the government have stopped after returning home from Japan, USA and UK.
