The Chairmen of all education boards have been directed to take precautionary measures for the ongoing Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations due to the approaching cyclone Mocha.
On Thursday, an emergency letter was issued by Professor Tapon Kumar Sarkar, the Chairman of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, instructing them to ensure necessary arrangements ahead of the cyclone to address the urgent needs.
In a letter issued to all the Board Chairmen, it is stated that the approaching natural disaster, a severe cyclone, may rapidly intensify and affect the entire country, including coastal areas, within the next two to three days.
“Met office, along with various news media outlets have been disseminating precautionary news relating to the cyclone ‘Mocha’. Due to the ongoing SSC and equivalent examinations, it is necessary to take precautionary measures by the education boards as well.
Instructions have been provided to each education board to ensure the safekeeping and security of all confidential materials related to the ongoing examinations, which are stored at treasuries, police stations, and examination centers,” the letter read.
The severe cyclone is likely to hit Bangladesh on Sunday morning and it may cause significant damage as well, the Met office said.
The cyclone will make initial landfall in the coastal areas on Saturday night. Due to the cyclone, there will be heavy rainfall in the coastal regions and other areas.
Although the center of the cyclone is expected to hit Myanmar’s coast, Bangladesh is also at considerable risk, Director of the Meteorological Department, Aazizur Rahman, said this to the media on Thursday.
The SSC and equivalent examinations began on April 30. According to the schedule, the written examinations under nine general education boards for SSC and vocational examinations under the Technical Education Board will end on May 23.
The written examination for Dakhil (Vocational) under the Madrasah Education Board will end on May 25.
