Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team beat Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket team by six wickets in the first Twenty20 International (T20I) match at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
Chasing Sri Lanka’s total of 145 for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, Tigresses sailed home making 146 for the loss of four wickets when they had just one ball to spare.
Bangladesh lost their early two wickets for 23 runs.
One-down Sobhana Mostary and second-down Nigar Sultana rescued their team from danger contributing together 51 runs for the third wicket partnership before Sobhana Mostary was stumped out by wicketkeeper Sanjeewani off Oshadi Ranasinghe when Bangladesh’s total was 74 for the loss of three wickets.
Nigar Sultana played a captain’s knock of 75. She hit seven fours and two sixes in her unbeaten 51-ball knock.
Nigar Sultana and Ritu Moni contributed 71 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Ritu Moni was run out by wicketkeeper Sanjeewani when the tourists’ total was 145 for the loss of four wickets.
Ritu Moni made 33 from 23 deliveries featuring four fours.
Sobhana Mostary scored 17 from 24 balls including one four.
Udeshika Prabodhani, Kawya Kavindi, Oshadi Ranasinghe took one wicket each for seven, 14 and 39 runs respectively.
Earlier, one-down Harshitha Samarawickrama, opener Chamari Athapaththu, and second-down Nilakshi de Silva made a respectable score.
Samarawickrama notched up a superb 45. Her 44-ball innings was laced with five fours.
Chamari Athapaththu hit 38. Her 28-ball knock was ornamented with three sixes and two fours.
Nilakshi de Silva remained unbeaten with 29. Her 28-ball innings had one four. Fahima Khatun bagged two wickets in the space of 20 runs, while Rabeya Khan, Sultana Khatun, Nihida Akter and Fariha Trisna took one wicket each for 23, 30, 35 and 35 runs respectively.
