Ministers, officials mourn journo Quamrul’s death

A number of ministers, state ministers and officials on Wednesday expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of senior journalist and former news editor of national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Quamrul Islam Chowdhury.
In separate condolence messages, they prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
The cabinet members, who condoled Quamrul’s death, are- Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, Environment Minister Md Shahab Uddin, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar and Environment Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed and Additional Secretary Sanjay Kumar Bhowmick.
Chowdhury died of liver ailments at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital at 8.30pm on Tuesday.He was 63, reports BSS.
He was the former General Secretary of Jatiya Press Club and Chairman of Forum of Environmental Journalists of Bangladesh (FEJB).
He served as the General Secretary and President of Forum of Environmental Journalists (FEJB) and represented Bangladesh in several international conferences on environment and climate change at home and abroad.
He was buried at his Aichapara family graveyard under Sonaimuri upazila in Noakhali district on Wednesday afternoon.
