Bangladesh Under-17 Women’s football team qualifier for the second round of the AFC U-17 Women’s Asia Cup Qualifiers with a comprehensive 3-0 win over hosts Singapore at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore on Sunday.
Forward Sauravi Akanda Prity converted a spot-kick in each half, and Sultana Akter found the net in the 62nd minute to cap off Bangladesh’s successful qualification bid.
Bangladesh handed debutants Turkmenistan a 6-0 thrashing in their first match on Wednesday last. In case of a draw or defeat, touring Bangladesh would be eliminated from the first round of the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup.
Ahead of the Sunday’s vital match, Bangladesh women’s team made strength training, conditioning and stretching sessions at the hotel Saturday morning.
All the 5,000 tickets of Sunday’s vital match between Bangladesh and Singapore sold out, said a BFF media release on Saturday.
Earlier, Bangladesh team made a flying start in the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers outplaying Turkmenistan by 6-0 goal last Wednesday while Singapore are enjoying an upper hand advantage over Bangladesh in the group crushing Turkmenistan by 6-0 goal on Friday.
Striker Thuinuye Marma scored twice (5th and 53rd minutes) while midfielder Puja Das (3rd minute), captain Ruma Akter (39th minute), forward Souravi Akanda Prirty (60th minute) and striker Sree Moti Trishna (82nd minute) scored one goal each for Bangladesh in Wednesday’s opening match. Later, four top teams from the 2nd round will earn the rights to play in the eight-team final round of the 2024 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup to be held in Indonesia next year.
Hosts Indonesia and the top three teams of the 2019 tournament—champions Japan, runners-up North Korea and 3rd ranked China will directly play in the eight-team final round of the meet in Indonesia next year.
