Malian forward Souleymane Diabate scored a brace as Mohammedan Sporting Club blanked Chittagong Abahani Limited by 2-1 goals in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football was held on Saturday at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
After the barren first half, Diabate finally broke the deadlock scoring the all-important goal for Mohammedan in the 61st minute from a spot kick.
He doubled the lead scoring his second goal in the 73rd minute of the match.
Chittagong Abahani Limited reduced the margin as defender Mohamed Tarek scored a lone goal in the 82nd minute of the match.
With the day’s win, the traditional black and white Motijheel outfit Mohammedan moved to the third position in the league table with 19 points from 13 matches while the port city team Chittagong Abahani Limited remained at their previous collection of nine points playing 12 matches.
Earlier in the first leg, the two teams played out to a 2-2 goal draw held at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla.
In the other match Fortis Football Club earned their third win in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) football beating Azampur Football Club Uttara by 4-0 goals was held at Rajshahi District Stadium in Rajshahi.
In the day’s match, Afghan forward Amredin Sharifi, Gambian forward Gaira Joof and his compatriot Pa Omar Babou scored one goal each for after leading the first half by 1-0 goal.
Amredin Sharifi opened an account scoring the first goal for Fortis early in the 3rd minute while after the breather Gaira Joof doubled the lead scoring the second goal in the 71st minute.
Forward Pa Omar Babou further widened the margin scoring the third goal for Fortis in the 79th minute from a spot kick while forward Shakhawat Hossain Rony completed the winners’ tally scoring the fourth goal in the 90+4th minute of the match.
The day’s win saw, Fortis Football Club secured 15 points from 13 matches while bottom-ranked Azampur Football Club remained at their previous credit of three points playing 12 outings.
Earlier in the first phase, Fortis FC beat Azampur Football Club Uttara by a lone goal held at Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh.
