Memorial meeting of Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury held

Dr. Kamal Hossain, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Professor Emeritus Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, Former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, among others, were present at the memorial meeting of the Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and freedom fighter Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury held in the city on Friday.

With the slogan, ‘Country’s Freedom Fighter, Comrade to all’, a memorial meeting was held for Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and freedom fighter Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury who died in a hospital in Dhaka on April 11.

Dr Ferdaus Azim, Head of the English department at BRAC University, led the memorial meeting, while Dr. Kashem Chowdhury, a Trustee of Gonoshasthaya Kendra, his younger sister Selina Chowdhury Mili, women’s leader of UBINIG Farida Akhtar, economist Binayak Sen, and assistant professor of Gonoshasthaya Dr Sayeduzzaman Apu remembered his life. The event was organised at his residence in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi on Friday.

The speakers went to remember the various known and unknown memories of his colorful life. At this time, an emotional atmosphere was created in the venue.

“It was not easy to live with him. We used to argue. We used to go to see stage drama together. He loved
watching stage dramas very much, but he didn’t like dancing and singing very much,” Dr. Chowdhury’s wife Shirin Haque said.

“I once took him to a dance event to make me happy, but he ended up falling asleep and snoring beside me,” she smiled as she recalled.

She further said, “He was crazy about his work, so we couldn’t have much fun. He didn’t have time for his children, but he loved them very much.”

“The doctors of Gonoshasthaya told me to take Zafrullah Chowdhury to a big hospital for treatment when he was in critical stage.

I told them when he would open his eyes and find himself in another hospital, then he would want to know, who made this decision?” she recalled.
