Rain likely in Dhaka, some other districts during Eid vacation

People of the country may get relief from the ongoing severe heat wave during the Eid vacations as there is a possibility of rain at least in four districts, including Dhaka, on April 21 and 22, Met offices said.
“There is likely to be rainfall in Dhaka, Sylhet, Mymensingh and Chattogram, as well as some other districts on those days,” Bazlur Rashid, meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told journalists on Tuesday. Officials from Met offices said that after scorching heat wave for the last several days, the weather would be cool after April 19 as the rain may occur in different part of the country.
They said that moderate to heavy rain may occur from April 23 in different districts including the Haor areas.
Meanwhile, Sylhet has already witnessed some relief from the scorching heat yesterday as it rained in the district after weeks on Monday. Before the rain in Sylhet, there was no rainfall in the country since April 7, Bazlur Rashid said.
Met office said that rain began at 8:00pm on Monday at three upazilas in Sylhet-Companiganj, Jainta and Kanaighat-which subsequently turned into torrential rain.
Meteorologist Shah Mohammad Sajib Hossain at Sylhet Meteorological Office said, “We forecast about rain earlier. Rain begins at several places including Companiganj in Sylhet. Rain is likely to fall in Sylhet city and its outskirts.”
The Met office expected rain in the entire district overnight. The inhabitants in Companiganj, Jainta and Kanaighat heaved a sigh of relief following the sudden shower.
Ishwardi upazila in Pabna district on Monday recorded the highest temperature at 43 degrees Celsius in Bangladesh this year, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department. In Dhaka, the temperature dropped to 38.1 degrees Celsius on Monday from the highest of 40.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Severe heat wave is sweeping over Khulna division and the districts of Dhaka, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Manikganj, Narayanganj, Rajshahi, and Pabna.
Rajshahi, and Chuadanga recorded at 42.6 and 42.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
