No need to worry about new policies: CEC to Journalists

Staff Reporter :
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal requested the journalist as no need to worry about newly issued policies over election coverage saying that if necessary, corrections will be made.
He said that the policies issued by imposing various restrictions including the ban on the use of motorcycles by journalists in collecting election news will be re-examined. CEC said if it is needed the rules will be made further correction, addition and subtraction.
Kazi Habibul Awal told reporters at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital on Thursday (April 13).
“We have issued a policy for journalists to collect news. There has been some confusion about this. We got to know that from the media. We discussed the matter among ourselves,” he said.
“We want to say that no document is permanent,” CEC said, “If necessary, changes can be made over time. We will further discuss among ourselves the policies we have issued. We will take into consideration the opinions or criticisms that come or have come from various sources.”
He added that the matter will be seen if there is any need for any further amendments, additions, or deletions to the policy. We will look at those issues and take a decision at the appropriate time. There is no reason to worry about it.
CEC said that the Election Commission (EC) wants transparency. EC wants the elections to be held in an orderly and fair environment. With that aim, we will try to establish discipline in all matters.
“We made the policy keeping that things in mind so that free and fair elections are not obstructed”. However, since you (journalists) will be monitoring the election, I will further discuss your views and take a decision and inform you in due course, CEC Kazi Habibul Awal also said.
