Construction work of Metrorail between Agargaon and Motijheel (MRT Line 6) will be completed within November this year and the Metrorail service is likely to open for public in November too.
“The construction work of Metrorail from Agargaon to Motijheel is progressing rapidly and the metro rail line will be completed within November this year. If all goes well, the metro rail up to Motijheel will be opened for public by November too,” Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader told reporters after a signing ceremony held at the Secretariat on Thursday.
He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the construction of another 100 bridges in June. She previously inaugurated the construction of 100 bridges this year as well.
The minister also said that Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) will introduce 100 new double decker AC buses on the roads of Dhaka city in November 2024. Of the double decker AC buses, 80 buses will be operated in Dhaka and 20 in Chattogram, he added.
The suffering will be at a bearable level during this year’s Eid journey; Obaidul Quader hoped and said that the road is not a problem, sufferings occur because of traffic congestion.
Traffic congestion is created due to lack of discipline on the road by the drivers, he added.
According to Obaidul Quader, it would be possible to complete the construction work of the elevated expressway up to Tejgaon in this financial year and department concern working relentlessly targeting the goal.
Regarding national polls, Obaidul Quader, also the General Secretary of Awami League said, “How the election will be conducted is the jurisdiction of the Election Commission. Our party will participate in the elections. Our Nomination Board meeting will be held on April 15 with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. On that day, we will confirm the election schedule of five cities, five municipalities and one upazila”.
