Around 800 BNP leaders and workers sued in Khulna
Staff Reporter :
Around 800 leaders and workers of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have been sued for allegedly attacking the police and obstructing government duties.
Sub-inspector of Khulna sadar police station Ajit Kumar Das filed the case on Saturday night, naming 59 people, including BNP’s central information affairs Secretary Azizul Bari Helal, Khulna District Unit President Amir Ejaz Khan, and General Secretary Monirul Hasan Bappi.
The rest of the accused were unnamed. So far, police arrested eight people in this connection.
Ajit Kumar Das said, the case was filed in connection with the clash between BNP men and police that took place during Saturday’s
BNP’s sit-in programme at Khulna’s KD Ghosh Road.
“BNP leaders and workers attacked the police car and obstructed government duties during their party programme,” he told the media.
As part of the ongoing simultaneous movement, the BNP, its associate bodies and like-minded parties observed a two-hour sit-in protest in all divisional cities and district towns on Saturday to press home their 10-point demand, including holding the next general election under a non-party caretaker government.
Twelve people were injured in clash between police and supporters of BNP on KD Ghosh Road in Khulna city.
