Weekly Kitchen market: Prices of essential commodities still high

The prices of daily commodities are still high in the market comparing the other time around the year. But early in the holy ramzan, the price of essentials were skyrocketing, mounting the pressure to the commoners.
However, in the last seven days prices of chicken, vegetables and fishes are decreasing in the market.
After visiting New Market, BUET market, Hatirpul and Rampura market on Friday, it was seen that the broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 200 to Tk 210 per kg, Pakistani cock at Tk320 to Tk330 whereas one week earlier these were selling at Tk 260 to Tk 280 and Tk 370 to Tk 380 respectively.
BUET market chicken trader Gafur Mia said the chicken price is going down. After the corporate companies’ declaration to reduce price, the boiler chicken price is decreasing gradually.
On the other hand, the more useable items in Holy Ramzan are lemon, cucumber, coriander, grams and brinjal are also being sold at reduced price.
Last week per hali (four pieces) lemon were sold at Tk 60 to Tk 100 (based on size and quality) whereas it is now Tk 30 to Tk 40.
Moreover, Brinjal and cucumber are also being sold at deduced price at Tk 70 to Tk 80 and Tk 50 to Tk 60 per kg respectively.
Egg is also being sold at Tk 130 to Tk 135 per dozen in the capital kitchen market.
Fish market is also showing down trend as almost all kind of fishes are being sold reducing by Tk 30 to Tk 50 in the market comparing the last week.
In addition, essential products in the grocery market are stable at high prices. In the market, prices of all the daily necessities including rice, sugar and soybean oil have gone up. Now coarse rice is being retailed at Tk 55 to 60 per kg in the market.
The price of medium quality rice is Tk 65 to Tk 67 per kg. Thin rice (miniket and Nazirshail) has to be bought between Tk 70 to Tk 85.
Coarse lentil price is between Tk 100 to Tk 140 per kg. Loose sugar is Tk 115 to 120 per kg, there is hardly any packaged sugar in the market. The price of bottled soybeans is at Tk 190 per kg.
Meanwhile, ginger is being sold at Tk 130 to Tk 140 and garlic at Tk 110 to Tk 120 per kg. Sweet potatoes are being sold at Tk 35 to Tk 40, potal at Tk 55 to Tk 60, rice at Tk 70 to Tk 80 and beans at Tk 70 to Tk 80 per kg.
