More than 230 leaders and activists of BNP have been sued in two cases filed over a clash with police in Netrokona’s Durgapur upazila.
Subhashish Ganguly and Sanwar, sub-inspectors of Durgapur police station, filed the two cases, reports UNB.
The police have so far arrested 13 BNP leaders and activists. .
A clash took place between BNP supporters and policemen on Sunday when BNP men were on the way to the municipal independence memorial to place floral wreaths on the occasion of Independence Day, according to sources.
Later, chases and counter-chases took place in the area.
Police claimed that BNP activists started pelting police with bricks when the party leaders-activists gathered for their rally. After that, a chase started between the two sides. At that time, the police fired blank shots to bring the situation under control.”
Durgapur Upazila BNP Convenor Alam Bhuiyan claimed that since the case has been filed,BNP leaders and activists are being harassed by police in the name of searching their homes.
Durgapur police station Officer-in-Charge Shibirul Islam has denied the allegations of harassment of BNP leaders.
He said, “The police did not harass anyone. They went to arrest the accused.”
