Extrajudicial killings are back: BNP

Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that extrajudicial killings are going on in the country.
“In Naogaon, a woman was taken away by RAB and later found dead. The doctor says there are signs of injuries on her head,” he said this while addressing an event titled “Muktijuddho Gono Samabesh” organised by the Nationalist Freedom Fighters’ Association at the Engineers Institution in the capital on Monday.
“It is shameful for us that despite the US sanctions against RAB, there are still allegations of extrajudicial killings against them. After the sanctions, incidents of extrajudicial killings had decreased, but now it has started again,” he said.
Commenting on the country’s current economic situation, the Secretary General said,
“It is being said that Bangladesh has become the role model of the economy. It is not economic policies, the country is being destroyed by unjust polices”.
“It is said that progress is being made, progress is happening for Awami League leaders, while the common people are left with empty promises. The factories are on the verge of shutdown,” he continued.
About the prices of daily essentials, he blamed the failure of the Awami League government and their corruption.
“One of the tasks of the Awami League is to deceive people. In 2008, they said the price of rice will be Tk 10 per kilo, but what is the price now? They are talking about the Ukraine-Russia war, but it is not due to a war, rather it is an upward trend in prices due to their corruption and failure,” he said.
About the development work in the country, Fakhrul Islam said, “Awami League says that there has been so much progress in the country. But the fate of the people has not been improved”. Commenting on the election system, the Secretary General said the government is staging drama in the name of dialogue.
“The government has destroyed the election system. Now a drama is being orchestrated in the name of dialogue. We want to say there will be no dialogue without caretaker government system,” he said.
He also criticised the government for not recognising the freedom fighters associated with the politics of the BNP.
BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas said, “Awami League is undermining independence. Independence is not being used for the benefit of the common people. Four pieces of lemons are Tk 100 while green chili is Tk 300 per kilogram.
“Some people are trying to make Bangladesh rich by making a few people wealthy abroad,” he said.
