Tk6417cr collected as penalty from corrupt people in five years

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has collected Tk6417 crore as penalty from the corrupted people and Tk477 crore worth wealth confiscated in the favor of the state in last five years (2018-2022).
The ACC has collected and confiscated the mentioned money after the court direction as the response of the ACC’s filing law suits.
The ACC collected Tk 139.94 crore in 2018, Tk3497.6 crore in 2019, Tk72.48 crore in 2020, Tk75.19 crore in 2021, and Tk2632.41 crore in 2022. ACC’s annual return has revealed the information.
According to the report ACC has confiscated Tk477.44 crore worth wealth in the favor of the state. Of them Tk 13.34 crore in 2018, Tk436.88 crore in 2019, Tk3.3 crore in 2020, Tk10.20 crore in 2021 and Tk13.96 crore in 2022.
ACC Commissioner (Investigation)Md Jahurul Haque said ACC has collected Tk6417 crore as penalty from the corrupted people and Tk477 crore worth wealth confiscated in the favor of the state in last five years (2018-2022).
He said I think it is best way to penalize and confiscate the wealth of the corrupt people. Otherwise, if we put them into jail then their expenditure will be maintained from the state fund which will be the waste of the people tax money.
If we penalize them they will think that their illegal wealth will be confiscated by the state, he added.
He said this process will help to reduce the corruption in the country.
Besides, in 2022, ACC has seizured Tk585.92 crore worth immovable property from the corrupted people. Of them 144.24456 acre land in Dhaka and outside of Dhaka, 27 houses, 19 flats, 11 vehicles and four marine vehicles.
On the other hand, ACC has freezed Tk224.79 crore worth movable assets. Of them 1448 bank account, Tk 144.58 crore in 11 FDR, 27,954 US dollars, Tk79.21 crore worth of share.
