Dutch Bangla Bank agent disappeared with 20cr

A Manager of Dutch-Bangla Bank agent banking in Kishoreganj’s Hosseinpur, reportedly disappeared with Tk 20 crore from about 400 customers.
Manager of the Dutch-Bangla Bank agent banking Md. Alamgir along with his partner has been reportedly missing from March 12 as the agent banking branch of Board Bazar under Hosseinpur upazila was locked since March 12, customers alleged.
According to locals, Manager Alamgir, son of Siraj Uddin Bepari of Hooglakandi village, has been operating Dutch-Bangla Bank agent banking in Board Bazar with his partner Manik Mia, son of Kenu Mia of Bir Katihari village for about one decade.
Riton Mia of Hooglakandi village was also appointed as his co-manager to operate the banking activities and now they all are disappeared with their personal and customers documents.
Their mobile phones were switched off.
Alamgir earned the trust of customers through good behavior. At one stage, he announced to pay interest of 1000 taka per month against the deposit of 1 lakh taka fixed deposit or DPS. This made the villagers interested in DPS. Alamgir gives cheques to these DPS while keeping them.
In this agent branch of Dutch-Bangla Bank, Rozina Akhter, wife of Saudi expatriate Ratan Mia of Char Hajipur village, kept Tk 27 lakh sent by her husband. Abdul Motalib of Hooglakandi village kept Tk 1.5 lakh and Abul Kasem of the same village kept Tk 14 lakh. For the last three days, when they take the cheque to the agent banking branch in Board Bazar, they do not see anyone, the mobile number is also switched off.
Affected customers told that, many of their relatives are expatriates. They deposited the money sent by them in agent banking branch as DPS. They were also getting interest of 1000 taka per lakh on that money. But since Sunday, the branch has been locked and the agent has disappeared.
Azizul Islam of Hooglakandi village has demanded to quickly trace the agent Alamgir and his associates who disappeared with more than Tk 20 crore from about 400 customers of Hossainpur and surrounding areas.
