Sheikh Jamal make auspicious start in DPL Cricket beating Dhaka Leopards

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited made an auspicious start in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Cricket beating Dhaka Leopards by eight wickets (according to Duckworth-Lewis-Stern Method) in their opening match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Wednesday.
Chasing Dhaka Leopard’s total of 169 off 39.2 overs, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club sailed home making 173 for the loss of two wickets when they had 63 balls to spare. (eight overs were curtailed as rain interrupted the match).
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club had an auspicious start as two openers Saif Hasan and Shykat Ali added together 49 runs in the opening stand before Saif Hassan (8) was trapped leg before wicket by Chathuranga de Silva when Sheikh Jamal’s score was 49.
After Saif Hasan’s dismissal, Shykat Ali and first-down Fazle Mahmud built another notable partnership. They scored together 43 runs in the second wicket stand before Shykat Ali was caught by Delwar Hossain off Salauddin Sakil when Shaikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited’s total was 92 for the loss of two wickets.
Shykat Ali hit a marvelous 63. His 56-ball innings was laced with nine fours and two sixes.
After Shykat’s dismissal, Fazle Mahmud and second-down Towhid Hridoy powered their to anchor the victory target putting together 81 runs for the unbroken third wicket stand.
Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten with 54. His 30-ball windy innings was ornamented with seven fours and two sixes.
Fazle Mahmud remained unbeaten with 41. His 79-ball patient knock saw one four and one six.
Chathuranga de Silva and Salauddin Sakil took one wicket each for 23 and 38 runs respectively.
Earlier, openers Sabbir Hossain and Pinak Ghosh of Dhaka Leopards had made a good start contributing together 35 runs for the opening partnership before Sabbir Hossain (14) was caught by Parvez Rasool off Mrittunjoy Chawdhury.
Later, Chathuranga de Silva and Moin Khan built a notable partnership. They added together 34 runs in the sixth wicket stand before Chathuranga ( was bowled out by Parvez Rasool when Dhaka Leopard’s score was 103 for the loss of six wickets.
Moin Khan and Mehrab Hossain added together 46 runs for the ninth wicket partnership when Dhaka Leopard’s total was 169 for the loss of nine wickets.
Earlier, Pinak Ghosh made his team’s highest score. He made 41 from 60 deliveries including four sixes.
Moin Khan scored 40 runs from 49 deliveries with four fours and a sixer.
Parvez Rasool and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury grabbed three wickets each instead of 23 and 31 runs respectively, while Shafiul Islam bagged two wickets at the cost of 39 runs.
Besides, Arif Ahmed and Ziaur Rahman took one wicket each.
