Daffodil University campus closed after clashes

News Desk :
The educational activities of Daffodil International University were closed due to clashes between students and locals in Savar, Dhaka.
On Tuesday, the campus area was silent while there was fear of attacks and vandalism among local businessmen.
Most shopkeepers kept their shops closed while there were no students seen on the campus.
Zobair Ahmed, a confectionary trader in Charbagh area, said: “Most of the shops here are closed. Our shop was vandalised on Monday. Because of this fear, many people are closing their shops on Tuesday. We are opening up but with fear.”
Sabur Mia, a sweet shopkeeper, said: “When the fight started on Monday, I closed the shutters and stayed inside the shop. Suddenly, many students came together and vandalised our shop. Now we are all in panic, fearing that there will be another fight.”
Local resident AKM Rahmatullah said: “We do not expect such incidents. There are several private universities in the area. Children from good families study here. We want law enforcement, university authorities and public representatives to sit down and mitigate the issue.”
At least 10 people, including police, were injured after clashes erupted between Daffodil International University students and locals in Savar’s Ashulia union on Monday.
The incident took place at around 7:30pm on Monday in Ashulia’s Gauripur and Kumkumari area.
Dr Syed Mizanur Rahman, director of Students Affairs and professor of Daffodil International University, said: “One of our students’ motorcycle was hit by laguna while walking on the road.”
Students and locals said that the clash started when a Daffodil International University student locked into a fracas with the locals following a collision between his motorcycle and a
human hauler in Gauripur’s Battala area.
The human hauler driver later called other drivers in the area, and another clash took place between the groups.
Later, the student went to the Daffodil International University campus in the Dattapara area and informed the other students about the matter.
Hundreds of students came together and vandalised more than 100 shops in the Gauripur and Kumkumari areas.
