Representation of women in political power demanded

According to the directive of the Representation of the People Order (RPO), political parties must ensures minimum of 33 percent women representation at all levels by the year of 2025. It was demanded in a meeting for exchange of views with the local pressmen held in Bagerhat Press Club on Saturday morning under the auspices of Bagerhat branch of Rupantar (NGO) and Aparajita, a women organization with Hosneara Mily, Woman Vice-chairman of Rampal Upazila Prishad in the chair.

Chairman of Kachua Upazila Parishad, in Bagerhat district addressed the exchange of views meeting as the chief guest while it was addressed among others by Nihar Ranjan Saha, President of Bagerhat Press Club, its Vice-president Israt Jahan, Ahad Uddin, former President of the club. Shaikh Ahsanul Karim, former President of the club, members of the club-M Akbor Tutul, Ariful Islam and Azmal Hossain.
The speakers said, in the political parties registered within the year of 2020 there is no 33 per cent woman representation in any of those political parties including Awami League and BNP. They added, though there are some 16 thousand 5 hundred 90 Posts are reserved for women in 4 categories of the local the Local Governments their activities are not defined clearly. So, the speakers upon the Government and all the registered political parties to include at least 33 per cent woman representations immediately in order to comply with the RPO and the constitution of the country. The exchange of views meeting was conducted by Shilpi Aktar, an official of Rupantar (NGO).
