Bangladesh clinch historic T20I series win over England

An all-round performance by left-arm all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz steered Bangladesh to win the Twenty20 International (T20I) series 2-0 (remaining with one T20I match) after defeating England by four wickets in the second T20I cricket match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Sunday.
Miraz captured four wickets in the space of 12 runs. It is Miraz’s career best bowling in T20I cricket. Miraz scored 20 runs from 16 deliveries hitting two sixes. Miraz was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance. He and with a good support of Najmul Hossain Shanto earned the historic series win over the mighty England Lions.
Najmul Hossain Shanto is the other cricketer of Bangladesh who played the vital role to chase England’s total. Shanto remained unbeaten with 46. His 47-ball innings saw three fours.
Chasing England’s paltry total of 117 off 20 overs, Bangladesh sailed home scoring 120 for the loss of six wickets when they had seven balls to spare.
Bangladesh lost their early two wickets for 27 runs.
One-down Najmul Hossain Shanto and second-down Towhid Hridoy mended the innings contributing together 29 runs for the third wicket stand before Hridoy (17) was caught at the point by Chris Woakes off Rehan Ahmed when the hosts’ score was 56 for the loss of three wickets. After Hridoy’s departure, Shanto and Miraz built a worthy partnership scoring together 41 runs in the four-wicket stand before Miraz was caught at the midwicket by Adil Rashid off Jofra Archer when the Tigers’ total was 97 for the loss of four wickets.
Fourth-down Shakib Al Hasan (0) was dismissed by Moeen Ali. Fifth-down Afif Hossain (2) was bowled out by Jofra Archer when Bangladesh’s score was 105 for the loss of six wickets.
Shanto and Taskin Ahmed powered Bangladesh to reach the victory target. Taskin remained unbeaten with eight runs.
Archer was his team’s most successful bowler with three wickets instead of 13 runs.
Earlier, England had a poor start as opener Dawid Malan (5) was caught at the third man by Hasan Mahmud off Taskin Ahmed when the visitors’ total was 16. After Malan’s dismissal, opener Phil Salt and one-down Moeen Ali repaired the damage contributing together 34 runs for the second wicket partnership before Phil Salt was caught & bowled by Shakib Al Hasan when England’s score was 50 for the loss of two wickets.
Salt scored 25 from 19 balls featuring three fours and a sixer.
Later, Ben Duckett and Sam Cuuran made another notable partnership putting together 34 runs in the five-wicket stand before Curran (12) was stumped out by wicketkeeper Litton Das off Mehidy Hasan Miraz when the tourists’ total was 91 for the loss of five wickets.
Then, England failed to make any notable partnership as Mehidy Hasan Miraz played the key role to mop up the England innings.
Hasan Mahmud, Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed took one wicket each for 10, 13, 19 and 27 runs respectively.
Duckett hit a run-a-ball 28 including two fours.
