Attack on Ahmadiyyas: 6 more held, total arrests now 187

News Desk :
Six more people were arrested in connection with attacks on the Ahmadiyya community in Panchagarh between last night and in the early hours on Sunday.
With this, the total number of arrestees reached 187, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.
Four more cases including two in Panchagarh Sadar and two in Boda Police Station were filed by affected villagers.
“We are arresting people on the basis of specific information and footage, irrespective of their political backgrounds,” SP added.
The incident was pre-planned and a group of trained cadres, equipped with lethal weapons, carried out the attacks on the Ahmadiyya community, the official claimed.
On March 3, two people were killed and at least 30 others, including seven policemen, injured in a clash between law enforcers and supporters of Islamist organisations demonstrating against the Ahmadiyya community demanding cancellation of the three-day-long Jalsa Salana, an annual gathering of the members of the Ahmadiyya community.
The agitators set fire to many houses and four shops belonging to the community. They also attacked a local police station, vehicles of law enforcers and a traffic police officer.
Twenty cases — 16 with Panchagarh Police Station and four with Boda Police Station — have been filed over the attacks, said police.
Additional forces have been deployed at different town and village points to avert further untoward incidents.
